This tomato chutney is made very often in mostly all parts of Orissa again with their own little variations. This sweet and sour relish is mostly had with any rice preparation. It also becomes a part of Bhog (food offered to God) as no onion garlic is used.

Note: If Panch phoran ready made is not easily available in the market then take equal quantity of nigella seeds, black mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds and mix them. Store this in a jar.

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes - 2 medium sliced
  • Grated ginger - 1 tbsp
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Coriander leaves - 1 ½ tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Panch Phoran (5 spices) - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 10
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar - 2 tsp
  • Water required amount

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a pan and put the panch phoran, green chillies and curry leaves. Once they sputter put the tomatoes and sauté it well for 1-2 minutes.
